“I have always loved making art, but I didn’t have a lot of time for it while I was working full-time as a teacher for students with special needs. After I was in an automobile accident, I wasn’t able to go back to teaching and started pursuing art of all kinds, taking lots of different classes. I particularly fell in love with lampworking, which involves melting glass over a torch to make beads, drawing with pen and ink, and painting with watercolors. During the Covid outbreak and lockdown, I found it hard to work on serious subjects, and crazy bird images kept popping into my head. So I started sketching them with pen and ink and watercolor. They felt positive and were fun to create. They continue popping into my head every now and then, and I see them doing lots of crazy activities. So, I have to get them out of my head and down on paper. A few of them even got incorporated into my glass work. Some of the birds popping into my head lately have brought other animal friends with them and they have found their way into some of my paintings. Not sure what’s next. I guess I will see who will be popping into my head.”
