The Dayton Business Journal did a feature on our new Xenia campus that opens in early 2026!
Construction has officially kicked off for Five Rivers Health Centers' newest branch.
The new location will reside in Xenia at 34 S. Allison Ave. in the former Rite Aid building.
For nearly eight years, the health system has served the Xenia community through two separate facilities: Five Rivers Health Centers Greene County and Star Pediatrics. With the opening of the new Allison Avenue location, these two branches will now be united under one roof, consolidating services into a single, modern facility.
As Xenia is the third largest zip code for all of Five Rivers Health Centers in terms of patients served, the organization saw the expansion as an opportunity to broaden their reach in the area, along with their services and clientele.
"Even though we've been satisfied with both of those locations, one of the things that has happened to us is that we've grown so much over the years," said Gina McFarlane-El, CEO of Five Rivers. "By consolidating these two sites, we're able to add more space, and more importantly, more services for citizens of the Xenia area."
The $5.5 million Xenia campus will provide services for patients of all ages including medical, dental, behavioral health and pharmacy and will accept new patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Other offerings include podiatry, dietitian services, obstetrics, gynecological services and collaborative drug therapy management.
Five Rivers has enlisted Skanska USA, a leading project development and construction company, to conduct the renovations. Skanska has worked with Five Rivers before, completing work on the organization's Edgemont campus in west Dayton in 2022.
"Our work with Five Rivers Health Centers has always been about more than construction — it's about building trust and a healthier future," said Dan Balow, Skanska USA Sr. VP, account manager in the Cincinnati office. "The Xenia campus is a testament to that shared vision, bringing compassionate, accessible care to the heart of the community. We're proud to help create a space that will serve generations with dignity and hope."
The new location will span 14,500 square feet and will include nine pediatric rooms, nine primary care exam rooms and four dental rooms. A centering pregnancy/community meeting room will be available for public use and will be free of charge.
In addition, Five Rivers will be adding a low-cost pharmacy in the building, which will allow patients to obtain prescriptions at a significantly reduced rate.
The Xenia branch will fill patient needs that are not only prevalent in Greene County, but across all Five Rivers locations, such as ready access to primary care, low-cost medication services and a one-stop shop. To provide affordable, accessible care, Five Rivers will provide free rides to-and-from appointments for patients who are challenged with transportation issues.
"Having medical, dental, pediatric, behavioral health, dietitian, podiatry, prenatal care, women's services and psychiatric care located all in one location, it makes it a lot easier for patients," McFarlane-El said.
Staff from Star Pediatrics and Five Rivers Health Centers Greene County will be transferred to the new facility and new staff will be added. Within the next two years, 37 jobs will be retained and created.
As the demand for health care continues to grow, Five Rivers has proactively purchased the building next door to the Allison Avenue location, keeping it on reserve for potential future expansion.
Five Rivers anticipates accepting patients in the first quarter of 2026.
